Oh Governor Tim Kaine

American’s for Prosperity has sent an email to Virginia members saying that Governor Tim Kaine wants to make the Jamestown tax permanent.

It was a ten dollar tax when you registered at DMV to fund the 400th anniversary of Jamestown that happened this year.

This from American’s for Prosperity:

"In 2003 lawmakers raised registration fees by $1 to raise an additional $6 million each year for the Jamestown commemoration, but they only spent $4 million on an 18-month series of events marking the 400th anniversary. The rest was divvied up between the DMV and a land conservation fund.

You should know that government has a history of extending "temporary" taxes. Take for example the "temporary" three-percent telephone excise tax on long distance calls first implemented in 1898 to help fund the Spanish-American war — it was only recently phased out after a whopping 108 years."

I love it when governments uses words like temporary and optional. They always become permanent and mandatory.

Go American’s for Prosperity!
