Another Endorsement?

Well, McCain picked up yet another endorsement again yesterday. It came in the form of his recent rival, Mitt Romney. Many are considering this significant, considering how Romney and McCain mostly battled each other for front-runner status.

By picking up Mitt’s endorsement, McCain obviously hopes to gain some conservative votes. I think there’s more to this endorsement than that. McCain has been pondering who to pick up as a running mate. I feel that McCain has more at stake in a running mate selection that even Hillary or Obama. I feel this is due to McCain’s need to gain the support of social conservatives and moderates (while Democrats are mostly looking at moderates in a running mate).

With Huckabee somehow still in the race, McCain is in a slightly bad position. That’s because he is still battling a conservative for the nomination, but wont get free conservative votes yet due to simple party loyalty. Other GOP candidates (and former candidates) like Giuliani and Thompson are not popular enough to be worthy of a running-mate position. So, in order to boost his image and gain conservative support, I feel McCain is laying the foundation for a McCain-Romney ticket.

So what do you think? Do you agree with my prediction? Does McCain-Romney sound like victory?
