Quote, Old Poll and New Poll

“The first lesson of economics is scarcity: There is never enough of anything to satisfy all those who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first lesson of economics.”

-Thomas Sowell

I found this to be very funny and have Public Choice Economics written all over it.

Old Poll: Would you want a purely Capitalistic Society?

  • Yes – 33%
  • No – 46%
  • I don’t know – 20%

This had interesting results so my readers have been very happy because not only do they think that it will never happen (previous poll) but they do not want a purely Capitalistic Society. Yet, I never defined what it was or wasn’t.

I would like to hear what people thought a purely Capitalistic Society would be like and what would be wrong or right about it.

Knowing people they would rather vote than comment on their vote.

I will have follow up posts soon that will try to define a Capitalistic Society is and look at the positives and negative sides of it and the alternative.

New Poll: Do you plan on voting for John McCain, if not why?

  • Yes
  • No, because he is to left wing
  • No, because he is to right wing
  • No, because other people running would be better
  • No, other
  • Not going to vote at all

  1. I consider a truly capitalistic society to be one where all possible markets are free and open, the tax is low and proportional to GDP (as a means of capping it at times; and the tax is only used to pay for the government’s very limited role), and there is no government interaction with markets whatsoever (except in keeping markets open).

I voted “No”, because I feel humans are incapable of maintaining a true capitalism without introducing a significant level of corruption, cheating, and and unlimited number of changes that would leave the economy unfair and ultimately broken.

I say this because biology has proven this via evolutionary research. To be brief, our species has not evolved the social mechanisms required to maintain a real capitalism. This is evident if not obvious why we have yet to see a real capitalism in all of human history.

I often criticize some aspects of our government/economy, but I think it’s a fairly effective and redundant system (especially considering the ultimate failure of pure forms of capitalism and socialism).
