John McCain and Global Warming

Can John McCain find a Conservative way of solving global warming?

This from

“Republican White House candidate John McCain will Monday tack sharply away from President George W. Bush on climate change, saying he will not “shirk” from the need for US global leadership.”

At least there he used an economic term of shirk, which is our way of saying slacking off. He supports a cap and trade system which the article explains as:

“McCain proposed a cap-and-trade system, which sets a limit of total greenhouse gas emissions but allows companies to sell unused greenhouse gas emission credits to other firms which have exceeded their quota.”

The rest of the article can be found here.

I personally do not support this measure but believe that it would be better than other government programs. I have not done a lot of research on this subject but I know there is still a lot research to be done by economists.

I know if you were to do a carbon tax, it would just go to the consumers and that would be very hurtful. At the same time regulation can act as a tax in most cases.

What do you think cap and trade good free-market or more government regulation?
